This book is one of the most practical reads on taking down real "living barriers" we erect, so we can open up relationships with Islamic people. There is so much about the way we live that absolutely, deeply, repels many Muslims from interacting with us. Most of us are clueless how we offend there sensibilities. We needed a book like this to remind us how deeply our unquestioned daily life and routines slam doors shut tightly. Simple things we think are normal, are too forward. Often it takes more than a smile. Are we willing to make some adjustments to our lives, to bridge the gap? Unfortunately many expect Muslims to do all the walking to span that great chasm. I for one have decided I will meet them more than half way. I want to truly love all my neighbors, not merely the ones like me. Diversity is refreshing, relationships across cultures rewarding. Whether we agree with each other or not.
"Follow Christ’s example and live with your friends, joining with them in all the affairs of daily life under their conditions. People do not only need the Book in their hand with instructions how to live. They need your hand in theirs, sharing their lives along with the Book. This is the heart of the Christian message. God did not rely on a book of instructions. Christ came and lived with us. As I journey with Muslims, exploring faith, at times I am the host bringing something new and precious to them, in the hopes they will accept it; and at other times, I am the guest receiving something precious from them. We do not pretend that there are no differences between our faiths, but we do not need to denounce each other’s beliefs either. We share a common desire, a common longing, to return to the Father’s house."
